Kahmeer
Cat
Keeping his paws on the pulse of Cats on Call for 15+ years, Kahmeer is the head honcho in charge. He’s a big-hearted, long-legged boy with a passion for freeze-dried chicken treats, wrapping himself around people’s shoulders like a scarf. If Kahmeer is not perched on someone’s shoulders or walking across one of his staff members’ keyboards, he is likely sitting below where his treats are stored, eyeing them longingly or snoozing in the warmest, sunniest spot he can find.
Odessa
Cat
Chief mischief-maker and fetch enthusiast. Odessa joined the team in January 2023 after she was bullied out of her home by one of Maud’s other cats. When she’s not purring up a storm at the front desk or begging someone for a belly rub, you can find her chasing after her dreams of being better at fetch than a labrador.

Deb
Veterinary Assistant
Deborah moved to Maine in 2021 to start her career working at feline-only practices. Before this, she earned a bachelor’s degree in holistic psychology from Lesley University. During her undergraduate studies, she quickly realized that her calling in life was fostering the human-animal connection, especially with our feline friends. Deborah is a certified Reiki practitioner focusing on animal energy work. She hopes to one day own her own cat shelter that integrates holistic medicine.

Dr. Abigail Hooker
Practice Owner and Medical Director
Dr. Hooker grew up in Southeast Michigan in a family of cat lovers. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 2017 with a B.S. in Animal Sciences. She attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, NY, and graduated with her DVM in 2021. She has always had a passion for cats. During veterinary school, she worked with the Cornell University Feline Health Center to organize community events and provide free veterinary care to cats in assisted living communities. After veterinary school, Dr. Hooker moved to Philadelphia, PA, to practice at an AAHA-accredited, Gold-level feline practice where she received mentorship from experienced feline veterinarians. She refined her skills in feline surgery and feline dentistry, managed patients with multiple chronic diseases, and worked with an incredibly compassionate, collaborative, supportive, and intelligent team.
Dr. Hooker met with Dr. Hoyt in 2022, as Dr. Hoyt was seeking a feline veterinarian interested in transitioning into practice ownership at Cats on Call. Dr. Hooker had dreamt for many years about moving to Maine, and she decided to jump into this new adventure and purchased Cats on Call from Dr. Hoyt in January 2023 as Dr. Hoyt transitioned into retirement. It was a difficult decision to move on from such a wonderful practice in Philadelphia, but Dr. Hooker is committed to providing personalized, compassionate care for our community of cat lovers in Scarborough.
Dr. Hooker’s professional interests include dentistry, behavior, and pain management. Dr. Hooker currently resides in Cape Elizabeth with her partner, Kyle, and three cats, Jackson, Marbles, and Spooky. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to Taylor Swift, reading (Stephen King is her favorite author), and exploring the forests and beaches of southern Maine.
